Camping

When are you open?

The campground is open from May-October, seven days a week. The office is open in the off season for reservations.

Are reservations required?

While we do accept walk ins, making a reservation in advance is always a good idea whenever possible. We typically sell out completely on weekends, so a reservation ensures that we will have the accommodations you are looking for.

Do we have to camp in order to take a river trip?

No. Our river trips are available to day guests and camping guests alike.

How far ahead can I book?

We are currently taking reservations for the Summer '25 camping season.

How do I make a reservation?

Currently, all reservations are made by phone.

Can I cancel my reservation once it's made?

Yes. However, in order to receive a refund (minus a $35 service fee) the reservation must be canceled 4 weeks in advance of arrival.

I need to cancel. Can I give my reservation to a friend?

Absolutely. Reservations are transferable to another party. Just contact the office as soon as possible to change the names on your reservation.

What time is check in?

Check in is from 3:00 pm-9:00 pm Sat-Thurs; 3:00-10:00 pm Fri.

What time is check out?

Check out is by 11:00 am. Late check outs may be subject to additional day's fee.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. We are a pet-friendly campground and welcome you to bring your dog.

Are there any rules I need to know to bring my dog?

Dogs must be on leash, cleaned up after and attended to at all times. Excessive noise or aggression will be grounds for immediate expulsion.

What is there to do around the campground?

The campground offers many opportunities for fun and exploration. We have a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits and hiking trails. (Horse shoes and volleyball are available for check out at the Camp Store.) Guests are welcome to swim and fish anywhere within the park. We have two playgrounds for our younger guests.

River Trips

This is my first time floating the river. What should I bring on my trip?

We recommend that all guests take food/snacks and beverages with them, as there are no snack bars along the river and most trips last several hours. Sunblock, hat, cheap sunglasses (in case they get lost in the river), and any emergency/rescue medications (inhalers, EpiPens, etc) should go with you as well. Many guests enjoy having music and water guns on the trip as well.

Is the river deep?

No. The Rifle River averages around knee deep. There are very few pockets of deep water (5-6') and most are no longer than the length of a canoe. We have life jackets available to all guests at no additional charge. Just ask your bus driver for one before you board.

Can my dog go with us?

Yes! We have found that dogs often times enjoy the river trips just as much as their humans. Please let the office know ahead that a dog will be going on the trip with you so we can make sure you have a cooler tube for them to comfortably float on.

Is alcohol allowed on the river?

Yes, alcohol is allowed on the river. However, there are a couple restrictions. Glass containers as well as styrofoam coolers are prohibited by the Michigan DNR. We ask that guests keep their alcohol limited to one 6-pack (or equivalent) per person.

Cabins

What amenities do the cabins have?

Our Amish built cabins feature a set of full size Amish made bunk beds, a futon that folds out into a full, table with four chairs, small microwave, minifridge, and ceiling fan. Outside of each cabin there is porch seating, a picnic table, fire pit and water spigot for your convenience.

Is bedding provided?

No. Guests are to provide their own full size bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets, etc.)

Is there a difference between the cabins?

Yes. Our Amish built cabins are built to accommodate up to 6 guests. This is in contrast to Cabin 0, which sleeps a maximum of 4 guests. Cabin 0 also has a small bathroom inside the cabin. Due to its smaller size, there is no futon or ceiling fan in Cabin 0.

Are dogs allowed in the cabins?

No, dogs are not allowed in the cabins.

Everything Else

What types of things can I buy in the Camp Store?

We try our best to carry a little bit of everything you might need. We carry a large variety of food, drinks and snacks. Hot coffee is available every morning, and slushies, ice cream and Dippin Dots are always ready to help you cool down. We carry a full line of souvenir apparel and hats. The store is stocked with many other camping needs as well-bug spray, sunblock, tent stakes, fans, blankets and more! Looking for something else? Just ask!

How long has Rifle River Campground been in business?

Our campground was founded in 1964, and has been open every summer since.
